A Bend man who ran a stop sign and caused his car to flip off the road north of town late Friday night was arrested on drunken driving, assault and other charges in connection with the crash, which injured him and his wife, authorities said.
Shortly before midnight, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of Rogers and Hunnell roads. Sgt. Erik Utter said they determined that the driver, Lee Allen Beauvais, 49, had been heading east on Rogers road when he allegedly ran the stop sign at Hunnell Road.
The driver crossed Hunnell Road and ran off the pavement, sending his vehicle in a rollover and coming to rest on its top. Utter said Beauvais sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. His wife, Vicki Jo, 39, suffered a dislocated elbow in the crash and was taken to St. Charles Medical Center, where she was treated for her injuries and released, Utter said.
Both of the car’s occupants were wearing their safety belts at the time of the crash, the sergeant said.
Lee Beauvais was taken into custody and lodged at the county jail in Bend for driving under the influence, third-degree assault, reckless driving and reckless endangerment. He was conditionally released from the jail to a third party around 4:45 a.m. Saturday, a spokesman said.
