Mt. Bachelor will host the 14th annual COCAAN FREE SKI DAY. Skiers and riders can bring three non-perishable food items or a cash contribution to the mountain or the Nordic Center and receive a free all-day lift ticket valid for that day. Food and cash donations will benefit COCAAN’s Feed the Need program.
When: Friday, January 30, 2004, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Who: Mt. Bachelor generously donates their facilities and staff time, and is helped by the National Guard and Deschutes County Juvenile Center , who volunteer their services to help collect and transport the food.
Where: Food drop locations on Mt. Bachelor will be at the West Village Ticket Office, the Main Lodge, Sunrise Village, Blue Lodge (Junior Race Center), and the Nordic Center. Food collection will begin at 7:30am and will be available at the Mt. Bachelor Park and Ride Lot in Shevlin Center for those who ride the Mt. Bachelor bus.
Why: Free Ski Day Food Drive is an important tradition for the community. Last year 23,600 pounds of food were collected and distributed to Feed the Need’s agencies in Crook, Jefferson, and Deschutes County.
History/Mission: COCAAN seeks to change the course of each family’s future by giving them the tools they need to succeed. COCAAN’s tool box includes Head Start, weatherization, home repair, energy and rent assistance, financial skills building, savings programs, assisting parents to find child care, tutoring homeless children, providing emergency and transitional housing to homeless families, home buyer education and feeding the hungry.
